Welcome, teachers and school staff! We are now taking reservations for the 2024-2025 school year. The National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico will be open for field trips Wednesday-Friday when school is in session. Tuesday may be available upon request. If you have a special request time or date for a field trip, please call us at 251-436-8901.

FAQs
WHEN ARE FIELD TRIPS OFFERED?
The National maritime Museum is open for field trips Wednesday-Friday when school is in session. We can sometimes accommodate groups on Tuesdays as well. Field Trips can be scheduled as early as 9:00 a.m.
During the summertime we also offer field trips for summer camps.
WHAT IS THE COST OF A FIELD TRIP TO THE NATIONAL MARITIME MUSEUM?
The cost for pre-k students is $7.00 per child, The cost for students in kindergarten to 12th grade is $8.00 per child. The cost for chaperones is $5.00 for each chaperone. The first three teachers are free, and additional teachers cost $5.00 per teacher.
HOW DO I MAKE A RESERVATION AND WHO CAN ANSWER QUESTIONS?
Reservations can be made by filling out the form on this page. Once you answer all of the questions, click submit and the “Field Trip Form will come to us. We will contact you within two business days to confirm your reservation. If you have further questions, please email [email protected]
WHAT ARE THE GROUP SIZE LIMITS AND GUIDELINES for CHAPERONES?
We will work with each field trip on an individual basis to discuss specific needs and to do our best to accommodate your group size. Our goal is to ensure your students have a high quality, enjoyable experience.
CAN HOME SCHOOL FAMILIES OR GROUPS SCHEDULE A FIELD TRIP?
Yes. We do not have any separate rules or blackout dates for home schools. Home schools are governed by the same rules as public or private schools.
HOW DO WE PAY FOR THE PROGRAMS?
Full payment by check or credit card is due no later than the date you arrive for your field trip. You have the option to prepay for your field trip by mailing a check, payable to “City of Mobile,” 155 S. Water Street, Mobile, AL 36602 or calling to pay with a credit card.
FIELD TRIP AGENDA
Fields trips can be designed to focus on what children are currently learning in the classroom. If you have a particular education focus you want highlighted during the field trip, please ask us to incorporate it into the program.
WHAT IS THE TYPICAL FIELD TRIP AGENDA?
Each field trip agenda is designed according to your instructions/request within the allotted time requested. All students are given the opportunity to visit “Take the Helm” which is our ship simulator. We will also incorporate “Science on a Sphere” (Ocean Planet) into all fieldtrips. We will allow time for everyone to visit all floors in the museum unless there is a specified schedule requested.
HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD WE ALLOW FOR OUR VISIT?
Time varies for each group, depending on the size and age of the group.
As a general rule, if you are doing a basic museum trip with a lunch break, allow a minimum of 2.5-3 hours.
DURING THE FIELD TRIP
WHERE CAN WE EAT LUNCH?
You have your choice to eat lunch outside in the amphitheater area or to eat inside in the lunchroom.
WHAT IF WE RUN LATE ON THE DAY OF THE FIELD TRIP?
We understand that unforeseen circumstances happen and we will make every effort to accommodate your group. However, if the school arrives past the scheduled start time, we may have to modify the amount of time allotted on each floor or may eliminate visiting certain floors as time dictates.
WHAT IF THERE IS BAD WEATHER ON THE DAY OF MY FIELD TRIP?
In the case of inclement weather, we will follow the guidelines provided by the City of Mobile. If the city is closed or has chosen to open late, the museum will be closed or will open late. We will gladly offer to reschedule your field trip if you are unable to attend because of inclement weather.
